Comics belong in the classroom

Something to think about as we get ready to begin a new school year...

Gene Luen Yang was the 2016-2017 National Ambassador for Young People's Literature. His platform was "Reading Without Walls" which suggests that being, and reading, outside our comfort zones can increase empathy.

Classics in Graphic Novel Form

Check out these classic books rewritten in graphic novel format!  My son loves these books. They are great for students who are not yet ready to read the original work in its entirety, reluctant readers, or those students who shy away from "the classics."  We have these three in the library.  Find them in our graphic novel section.

How To Read Manga

Manga...... I love that students love Manga.  It is great for reluctant readers, graphic novel enthusiasts, and our general school population.   I moved the 741.5 collection to the front of our library because Manga and Graphic Novels check out the most.

But...I will admit that Manga is not my first choice for pleasure reading and I don't know how to read it.  So, when a student picked up a Manga book last week and said, "How do I read this?"  I was stumped.  "I have no idea," I said, "but I will find out for you."
